The CELI exam (Certificato di Conoscenza della Lingua Italiana) is an internationally recognized certificate for Italian as a foreign or second language. It assesses language skills in the areas of listening, reading, writing and speaking and is based on the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): CELI 1, CELI 2, CELI 3, CELI 4 and CELI 5.

The exam lasts at all levels:

Written exam - 2h
Listening comprehension - 20 min
Oral exam - 10 min

CELI Ordinario: Standard exam without specialization, recommended for people aged 16 and over (A1-C2)
CELI Adolescenti: For young people aged between 13 and 17 (A2-B2)
CELI Immigranti: For migration-related purposes (A1-B1)

The number of exam places is limited. Please register early using theregistration formor directly at our office.

Unfortunately, registrations received after this date cannot be considered.

The examination fee must be paid by the end of the registration period.

Cancellations before the deadline will incur a processing fee of CHF 30.
Cancellations after the deadline will result in thefullexamination feebeing charged.
Cancellations can only be made by email.

Generally only possible after the registration deadline in the case of medically confirmed illness. Examination fees can be transferred to a later date; a medical certificate is required for this. Processing fees will be charged, refunds are not possible.

The evaluation time is usually 3 to 4 months. On request and for an additional charge, an express evaluation can be requested, where the results are issued within 2 to 3 weeks. However, this depends on the capacity of the CELI

The CELI certificate is internationally recognized by educational institutions, employers and authorities and serves as proof of language skills for work, study or residence in Italy. For naturalization in Switzerland, the required knowledge of Italian can also be proven with a CELI certificate in the Italian-speaking cantons.

CELI at the ILS-Aarau

The ILS-Aarau is a recognized examination center for the CELI exams and offers dates for all levels - A1 to C2 - as well as special variants such as CELI Adolescenti (A2-B2) and CELI Immigranti (A1-B1). Here you have the opportunity to officially certify your Italian language skills according to international standards and obtain a certificate that is recognized by employers, educational institutions and authorities in Italy, Switzerland and worldwide.

The CELI exams are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and test listening, reading, writing and speaking skills. Whether you need Italian for work, study, residence or naturalization purposes - the CELI certificate is a valuable proof of your language skills.

CELI or CILS

Both CELI and CILS are internationally recognized certificates for Italian as a foreign language. Both test the four central language skills: Listening, reading, writing and speaking. With both certificates you can prove your knowledge of Italian for studies, work or naturalization - also in Switzerland, especially in the Italian-speaking cantons.

The most important difference lies in their origin: CELI is issued by the Università per St ranieri di Perugia, CILS by the Università per Stranieri di Siena. While both exams are based on the same levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (A1-C2), they differ in terms of exam types, preparation options and exam centers.

For exam participants, this means that one certificate may be more practical than the other, depending on location, available preparation and personal goal. Both offer the opportunity to repeat failed parts individually so that you can flexibly prove your knowledge.
